Understanding the Hair Cycle

(a) Anagen (Growth Phase)

About 90% of the hair on the body is inactive growth at any given time. This phase can last up to 10 years for follicles on the scalp but as short as a few months for eyelashes and body hair. Hairs in the anagen phase can be targeted for laser hair removal.

(b) Catagen (Involution Phase)

About 1% of the body and head is in this stage. The involuting stage means the cells stop dividing and the hair shafts stop growing. The shaft separates from all the connective tissues around it and lifts up, slightly out of the follicle.

(c) Telogen (Rest Phase)

The remaining 9% of the hairs are in this stage where the hair shaft is still present within the follicle but is not growing and can easily be displaced by a new hair growth as the follicle reenters the Anagen phase.

The Science Behind Lumecca No-Hair

The intense pulsed light, IPL, causes the melanin in the hair shaft to absorb the light which is then transformed to heat. The heat is conducted to the surrounding follicular cells and damages them. This technology disintegrates the red-brown pigments in the skin.

With IPL Lumecca, the laser and body response is immediate and improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin can be seen after just 1 treatment.

With longer pulses, just like in Lumecca IPL, it reduces the risk of these spots.

After the treatment, you can expect your skin to be red and inflamed for the first 24-48 hours. Hair growth will occur at a much slow pace, producing thinner, and lighter hair until eventually producing no hair at all.
